Respected ex-Tyco legal chief joins Dechert as senior counsel
The former executive vice president and chief legal officer of Tyco International, William Lytton, has joined Dechert’s New York office as senior counsel. He will advise corporations and their boards on corporate governance, corporate investigations and global legal services, while also pursuing other personal and non-law firm related activities.

Covington set for Asia with Beijing office launch
Covington & Burling is to make its first foray into the Asian market with the launch of an office in Beijing today (23 July). Covington received a license to practise from the Chinese government on July 5. The opening represents the firm’s sixth office and their third outside of the US with arms in London and Brussels.

Top trio win roles on £1.1bn Lion Capital buy-out
Linklaters, Weil Gotshal & Manges and DLA Piper have all landed lead roles on the £1.1bn sale of Foodvest to private equity group Lion Capital. Foodvest is one of the largest frozen food manufacturers in Europe with a major presence in UK, France and Scandinavia, housing brands such as Findus, Young’s and Admiral Pie.

DLA adds finance/projects head in St Petersburg
DLA Piper has appointed a new finance and projects head in St Petersburg with the hire of Alexey Chichkanov, the deputy chairman at St Petersburg’s City Property Management Committee. The new partner joined the office earlier this month (1 July) to lead the office’s three-lawyer finance and projects group, becoming the fourth partner in the office. He is set to expand the group as well as advising clients on real estate and infrastructure investments.

BLG to take Menezes shooting inquest role
Barlow Lyde & Gilbert has been appointed as the solicitors to the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes. The instruction, which followed a competitive tender process by the Inner London South District Coroner’s Court, will see the firm assume the function of the Coroner’s Office, taking responsibility for the running of the closely-watched and high-profile inquest.The inquest will begin on the 22 September and last for approximately three months.
