RED BAY — Six people suffered scrapes and bruises when the front porch of a rural church in northwest Alabama collapsed after Sunday morning's service, sending worshippers tumbling as far as 15 feet onto a dirt area below.

Qualifying for city elections begins today
Qualifying for August's municipal elections begins today, and area city clerks say getting on the ballot is fairly simple. Voters in most area cities and towns will go to the polls Aug. 26 to elect mayors, city council members, and in some cases, school board members.
