Former Vigor High, Auburn star Willie Anderson to sign with NFL's Baltimore Ravens
Five days after the Cincinnati Bengals released him, Willie Anderson has found a new home. The former Vigor High and Auburn standout will fly to Baltimore with his agent today sign a contract with the Ravens worth $11 million over three years, according to his agent, Terry Bolar. The move came just in time for Cincinnati to visit Baltimore Sunday in both teams' NFL season opener. Bolar told the Press-Register Thursday that Anderson could compete to start immediately with the Ravens. Anderson, a four-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle who played all 12 of his NFL seasons with the Bengals, said that it's a little weird to be the "new guy" in Baltimore after spending the past few years as a stalwart on the Cincinnati front. "It's a different feeling going to a new organization," Anderson told the Press-Register in a phone interview Thursday night. "When guys came to the Bengals I tried to make them feel comfortable. I always tried to make sure I was one of the guys that introduced myself." (For more details, read Friday's Press-Register)

Gustav evacuees to return home Friday, officials say
Thousands of New Orleans residents who fled to Alabama during the approach of Hurricane Gustav will be bused home beginning Friday morning, local officials announced at a news conference tonight. Almost 80 buses are ready to take approximately 3,600 evacuees housed in eight Birmingham shelters back to New Orleans, beginning about 9 a.m., said Allen Knipher, Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency coordinator. Local officials said evacuees are currently being assigned to buses. FEMA, in conjunction with the state of Louisiana, chartered the buses to take the evacuees from Alabama to Louisiana. Alabama State Troopers will escort them in convoys of 10 to the state line. Local officials said drivers should expect some delays on side roads near shelters as buses are escorted to the interstate. There are about 12,200 evacuees housed in shelters around Alabama. Knipher said officials plan to have all shelters in Birmingham emptied by Friday afternoon.
