Tampa Man Charged With Raping 13-Year-Old Relative
Police arrested a 53-year-old Tampa man Wednesday, accusing him of groping and raping a 13-year-old female relative. Juan A. Martinez, of 6720 S. Lois Ave., Tampa, was held without bail at Orient Road Jail today. He is charged with felony sexual battery and felony lewd and lascivious molestation.

Later that night, Smith says, his premonition came true. James McElroy, who deputies say stabbed his father to death and seriously wounded his mother and sister, pulled up to Smith's Town 'N Country apartment in his blue Jaguar. So, Smith says, he and a neighbor, an ex-Marine, worked out a plan to turn McElroy over to authorities.

Driver Whose Car Plunged Into Bay Still In Critical Condition
The woman whose car careened off the Courtney Campbell Parkway and plunged into Old Tampa Bay on Wednesday night remains in critical condition this morning at Tampa General Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. At about 6 p.m., Margaret DeMarco, 56, was traveling eastbound on the parkway when her car hit a small puddle of water and hydroplaned, witnesses told Clearwater police. DeMarco lost control of her vehicle, hit a guard rail then continued into the water, witnesses said.

Strawberry Festival Pageant Drops Swimsuit Competition
The Florida Strawberry Festival queen pageant is ditching its swimsuit competition. Pageant officials had received complaints in recent years that some contestants were showing too much skin. But the complaints didn't factor into the decision to replace the swimsuits with a casual wear competition, a pageant official said today.

Kenny Kelly, a volunteer assistant football coach at Plant City High School and former professional baseball player, was among about 70 people arrested Wednesday on drug charges as part of a three-county, five-month investigation. Kelly, who was a three-sport athlete at Tampa Catholic High in the mid-1990s and is recognized as one of the top prep athletes to come out of Hillsborough County, was charged with solicitation to deliver, possess and purchase marijuana. He was being held today at Orient Road Jail with bail set at $45,000.
