Cutting 'tools' in inmates' jail cell
A large square scratched into a plexiglass window and two screws were found in the Allen County Jail cell of two inmates last week - one of whom is facing decades in prison for two 2007 home-invasion robberies. "Those windows are like 3 feet thick," Allen County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Steve Stone said.

Attack claimed as stab motive
A 12-year-old boy told police he stabbed a man to keep him from choking the boy’s mother early Tuesday. Police were called to a home at 4715 Lillie St. just after midnight and found the man lying on a mattress with a laceration to his stomach. The woman he’s been dating and living with for a year was tending to him.

Mayor's 1st veto: Fire merit board
Mayor Tom Henry will veto a bill today intended to give firefighters more say in how they are hired, promoted, disciplined and fired. Henry is scheduled this morning to announce vetoing the City Council's ordinance to create a merit board for the Fort Wayne Fire Department. It will be his first veto.
