Flu Vaccination Best Shot at Staying Healthy
Area health care providers are gearing up for flu vaccination season. Doctors say it can offer 70- to 90-percent protection from the flu. This year, the recommendation for children extends from six months all the way up to 18 years of age.

New Apartments Open in Topeka
A new affordable housing complex has moved into Topeka. Woodland Park Apartment Homes at Soldier Creek offers 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units. They have a total of 236 apartments available for rent. Most of them are two bedrooms.

Stormont-Vail Employees Get a Pie in the Face
Stormont-Vail is raising money for the United Way. Employees there had collection jars assigned to them. The three contestants with the most money volunteered to take a pie to the face.

Christ the King Elem. Helps Needy
Christ the King Elementary School held a clothing drive Thursday. The two eighth grade classes participated in the drive - bringing in old clothing, gloves, socks, and any other items they felt could be used. The Topeka Rescue Mission picked the clothing up.

Gov. Thanks State Workers
Local workers are being recognized for all their hard work over the years. Thursday, Governor Kathleen Sebelius was at the state capitol, congratulating Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas Corporation Commission workers for their ten, twenty, and thirty years of service.
