Water Warriors to make stops in area
Water Warriors participating in the 18th Annual Endurance Ride to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan will stop in Alpena on Monday. About 70 riders will travel from Mackinaw City to St. Clair Shores in five days. They will arrive at the City of Alpena Marina around 3:30 p.m. Monday, stay overnight, and depart for Harrisville at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Last chance to comment on master plan
Mitchell Township residents will have a final opportunity to review and provide comments on the township's proposed master plan. The township planning commission, with the assistance of the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments, has been updating the master plan.

Patriot Guard to stop in Alpena
On July 26, the Patriot Guard Riders will be stopping in Alpena as part of a statewide ride to raise money for veterans. Patriot Guard Michigan State Capt. Sam Cottle said he expects about 60 riders to participate in the ride through the state, but said that number will increase as local riders take part in smaller legs of the ride.

Baum files suit against ambulance service
Douglas Baum has filed suit against the Tri-Township Ambulance Service, the Tri-Township Board, and Bonnie Flynn, Donald Edwards and Dan Albrecht claiming he was unlawfully suspended without pay. The three-count complaint asserts there have been violations of the 14th Amendment equal protection clause of the U.S.

County's finances in good shape
So far so good for Alpena County's finances. During Wednesday's Alpena County Finance Committee meeting, Treasurer Joelyn McCallum gave a positive second quarter report. "You do have a balanced budget," McCallum said. "Everything looks fine." She reported that midway through the year expenses were at 50 percent of budget projections - exactly where they should be.

MSP arrests man in motorcycle death
The motorcycle accident that took the life of 24-year-old Presque Isle County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Christopher Soule has resulted in the arrest of an Alpena man. According to Trooper Michael Lorenz of the Michigan State Police Alpena Post, Dennis Thomas of D's Honda Sales was arrested Friday for the unlawful furnishing of a motorcycle to an unlicensed person.

Jury to decide on man's sanity
A jury will have to decide whether a 36-year-old Alpena man was insane at the time he allegedly made false report or a threat of terrorism. Last month, the Alpena County Prosecutor's Office did not accept a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity for Mitchell Tulgetske, even though a report from the state forensics center stated he was insane at the time of the alleged crime.

Blaugh bound over to circuit court
Jeffery Blaugh Jr. was bound over to 26th Circuit Court on charges of false report or a threat of terrorism following a preliminary examination in 88th District Court on Tuesday. Blaugh is accused of making a bomb threat on June 16 at the Alpena County Courthouse, to allegedly postpone his sentencing for unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was sentenced before the building was evacuated.
