Joplin building at 58 percent of last year’s pace
A $700,000 building permit filed for the new Macadoodle’s going in at the 1717 Marketplace shopping center along Range Line Road led construction in Joplin for August. It was the largest permit filed in the city last month.

For one developer, finance problems hit close to home
For one Joplin man, the financial crisis already has hit too close to home. Developer Kevin Manard said he had just closed out a construction loan with ANB Financial of Bentonville, Ark., only weeks before the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. ordered that bank closed on May 9.
