Average gas prices in North Carolina last fell below $1.50 a gallon more than five years ago, said Tom Crosby, vice president of communications for AAA Carolinas out of Charlotte. The last time the statewide average reached $1.50 a gallon was mid-August 2003, AAA Carolinas reports.
