More Storms Today, Damage Reports from Tuesday's Storms
Another stormy day in the east, you may have heard some thunder. Those thunder claps brought heavy rains and lightning with them to many places in the area. There are no reports of major damage and no injuries. Some places saw as many as one to two inches of rain this afternoon. And the storms we saw yesterday caused major damage for some farmers in the east. This tobacco crop in Fountain was ruined by hail, most of it half an inch to even golf ball sized hail. Several other people reported crop damage around that area as well. People there say the hail came out of nowhere. "Couple bolts of lightning, some thunder and then ice, that's all you saw was ice coming down everywhere," Renee McGraw said. McGraw says parts of the home and several cars were also damaged. No word yet on how much the crop damages cost.

McCrory Campaigns in New Bern Wednesday
Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory spent some time campaigning on the home turf of his opponent Wednesday. McCrory spent the day in New Bern, Democratic candidate Bev Perdue’s hometown. While he was in town, McCrory visited an appliance company, spoke to the Craven County Republican Women’s Club and attended the grand opening of the Craven County Republican Headquarters. During his time with the Women’s Club, McCrory touched on a number of topics -- including the hot button issue of drilling for oil off our coast. “I’m a total advocate of deep sea exploration for both natural gas and for oil,” McCrory said, “while my opponent is 100 percent against it. And that means North Carolina is not part of the energy solution. We need both conservation and energy exploration.” McCrory will visit Oriental and Swansboro on Thursday. For her part, Perdue made stops in Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville on Tuesday.
