Ayden Shooting Update
Police are looking for a gunman tonight and a man is recovering after being pistol whipped. Aden police say it happened outside the US Minimart at Lee and Martin Luther King Blvd. They found a man in his early 20’s who had been pistol whipped. Police say at one point, the suspect started shooting into the air. Police believe the victim knew his attacker and the two had argued, but they have little else to go on. Witnesses say the suspect was driving in a burgundy 2-door vehicle possibly with another person inside. Of course this has left employees of the mini mart a little nervous. "At that time i didn't think about anything…of course I'm worried because it could happen to me too,” said Mohamed Muhssen. If you have any information call the Ayden police at (252) 746-7015.

New Disability Regulations?
For you and me it's easy to get around but what if we were in a wheel chair? The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was supposed to make life easier for people with handicaps. But some say, the law needs to be changed, and not only will that change effect the 50-million people who are disabled in the US it will effect anyone who pays taxes. "I've worked here a little over a year now and I've never honestly seen someone in a wheelchair out here,” said golfer Joey Prokop. Hitting a few balls on the green is something many take for granted. But some people say they just don't get the opportunity to play. "You've got the handicap parking lot but you can't play golf if you're handicap and in a wheelchair,” adds Ethan Roy. But that may change. And the Justice Department says it'll affect 7-million businesses. The proposed regulation will change how businesses operate. From captioning of emergency announcements in large stadiums, to better accessibility in playgrounds.. Miniature golf courses will have to provide wheel chair access to 50% of holes. Denny Purser supported the changes in the 1990’s but it would be better he says if lawmakers enforce standards already in place, “People who design these codes aren't in wheelchairs…where they put cut curbs right in the middle of a parking space so if the disabled driver pulls right into the parking space he's in front of the cut curb so he can't get in it.” Some estimate it could cost $23 billion over the next few decades. And businesses would pass on the cost to you and me. The Department of Justice is holding public hearings until mid-August. We're told congress can't act on it until 2009.

Folks in one city in the east now have a bigger facility to further their education. Today, Lenoir Community College opened the doors to its Greene county facility in Snow Hill. The education center was originally built in 2000, but they've added more classrooms in order to offer more programs such as college transfer courses. Now students can study general education classes for two years, then transfer to a bigger university. The director of the center says facilities like this one, really help the entire community develop.
