Community Builders
Thirteen-year-old Collin Edge has his eye on an Eagle Scout badge but his heart is clearly with helping children in need. His scout master of Troop 130 says he wasn't surprised when Collin told him he wanted to gather school supplies for kids in foster care. Scout Master Keith Henry says, "He is a very motivated scout. He always takes on each task with a lot of heart, a lot of energy." Liz Edge says their family wasn't complete until after they adopted two kids from foster care. Now it's a full house with kids from ages 8 to age 15. "Our family has become very conscious that there are so many kids in need right here in the United States," says Edge. Which is why Collin feels it's so important to make sure foster kids have every necessary item. "My family we took care of kids in foster care and they came literally with nothing, except for what they were wearing," says Collin. He is hoping people in the community will step up to the plate and donate. Collin says, "Backpacks, calculators, pencils and anything you think a kid would need for school." Not only is Collin helping children in Carteret County but he is also a great role model for his own siblings. You can help Collin with his project by dropping off school supplies at Morehead City Middle School or at Saint Egbert Catholic Church.
