Wilmington's wreckers want the city to pull towing rates in line with the times.The city has received series of letters recently from area towers asking for big increases in the fees the companies can charge for picking up wrecks or removing illegally parked vehicles

Lifeguard struck by boater
A 54 year old lifeguard is now recovering, after a 28 foot boat hit him on his way to rescue two jetskiers. After the boat struck Daniel Anderson in the Carolina Beach inlet, police say it kept going. Anderson spent the night at New Hanover Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. Full story...

Police blotter: Boat strikes Carolina Beach lifeguard, then flees
A Carolina Beach lifeguard was struck by a boat while he was conducting a rescue about 6 p.m. Friday. Daniel Anderson, 54,was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was expected to stay overnight, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Carolina Beach Police Chief William K. "Billy" Younginer said.
