Pharmacist accused of peeping facing more charges
SMITHFIELD, N.C. (AP) - A pharmacist accused of peeping into a neighbor's home earlier this year faces additional charges based on hundreds of videotapes seized from his home.The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Thursday that police said video footage was shot in an employee restroom at Johnston Medical Center where Ben Earl Pell worked. Pell worked at the hospital for 30 years, then worked part-time after retiring in 2005.Pell turned himself in to police Wednesday, when he was charged with 15 counts of felony secret peeping. He is free on $25,000 bond.Police initially arrested Pell on April 19 outside his neighbor's home after a woman called police and said she saw a silhouette at her window while getting ready for bed. Following the arrest, police seized the videotapes.

Health care companies settle fine for $800,000
RALEIGH (AP) - Two insurance companies that were fined more than $2 million in 2004 after being accused of violating North Carolina law have agreed to pay the state nearly $800,000.The state Department of Insurance said Thursday that United HealthCare Insurance Co. and UnitedHealthCare of North Carolina Inc. will pay the fine to resolve allegations that they violated state law in how they were settling insurance claims.The settlement comes about five years after the Department of Insurance discovered numerous problems with the companies' claims handling process. The department originally fined the companies $2.2 million in 2004, the highest fine ever levied by the agency.The department said the settlement money will be used for the state's public schools.
