CCU looks to scuttle or shuffle bus shuttle
Stung by a series of alcohol-related student arrests this past year and a "hard-drinking party school" reputation, Coastal Carolina University's administrators are considering canceling a weekend shuttle service between campus housing and Broadway at the Beach."The discussion is whether the shuttle sends a mixed message to students," said CCU President David DeCenzo. "The intent was never to promote drinking, but we've had some concerns raised by students and bus drivers about what has become a rather rowdy bus ride home."CCU hired The Coast Regional Transportation Authority in August to operate the shuttle, which took students between campus and Broadway at the Beach between 7:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. each Friday and Saturday. The university paid $58,042 for the service.
