State Sen. Jack Scott named chancellor of California community college system
The Altadena Democrat is being forced out by term limits. He will assume oversight of the 109 two-year schools Jan. 1. State Sen. Jack Scott, an education reformer who served as president of two colleges, has been named the next statewide chancellor of the California community college system.

Santa Monica teachers want a voice on new sex abuse rules
The school district will discuss ideas on handling such cases Thursday. As Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District officials consider policy changes after the arrest of a middle-school teacher who was accused of molesting five students, the teachers association said Friday it hoped the new protocols would not violate their rights.
