WINTER HAVENThe best of the Panhandle Conference will clash Monday in the FCCAA Gulf District/NJCAA Region 8 baseball tournament.Edmond Sparks' two-out double scored Carlos Moncrief for the winning run for Chipola, and the Indians added three more runs in the top of the ninth for a 13-9 win over Manatee in the winners' bracket final on Sunday.The Indians (42-12) advanced to play Pensacola Monday at 3 p.m. CDT. The teams split the regular-season series 2-2, with the Indians scoring 32 runs in their two victories over the Pirates. The Pirates slipped into the losers' bracket after falling to Manatee 13-9 late Saturday in a game that took nearly five hours to complete, due in large part to a one-hour delay to repair a broken sprinkler in the field.Manatee (39-15) faces Miami Dade (44-11) in Monday's first elimination game at noon. Miami Dade ousted St. Petersburg (37-19) 16-4 on Sunday.If Pensacola defeats Chipola on Monday, three teams will advance to the championship round on Tuesday. Chipola would draw a bye, as the team that stayed in the winners' bracket longest, into the 3 p.m. Tuesday game, while the other teams play in an elimination contest at noon.Drew Parker returned to his familiar postseason form with a quality start and win. He gave up six hits and four runs with nine strikeouts to only one walk through 6 2/3 innings pitched.The Indians' bullpen, a strength all season, wavered in the later innings, when the Lancers scored five runs on three hits against Lance Bailey and ace Matt Jackson to tie the game 9-9 in the bottom of the eighth. Jackson returned in the ninth to pick up the win.It was only a matter of time before Chipola got to Manatee starter Troy Graybill, who tossed only seven innings this season due to injuries. The Indians sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning and amassed seven runs on five hits, with one Manatee error that accounted for two tallies.Moncrief, Jordan Sparks, Adam Duvall and Marc Bourgeois had RBIs in the inning, and Chris Berroa scored on a wild pitch. Graybill lasted just 3 2/3 innings, giving way to Gus Schlosser during the onslaught.Chipola took an 8-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, when Manatee mounted a mini-comeback with three runs. Logan Moro scored on Harold Smith's fielder's choice, Taylor Hashman tripled in Smith and Robert Haney doubled home Hashman in the frame.Chipola added a run in the seventh before Manatee rallied.
