NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks remained near session lows in mid-afternoon trade Monday, as assurances from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that the Fed still has firepower to help credit markets couldn't immediately offset concerns over a global recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 444 points, or 5%, at 8,384, near its intraday low of 8,362.
