Northwest Cargo to up international fuel surcharges July 15
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- NWA Cargo, a unit of Northwest Airlines , will raise fuel surcharges in certain international markets starting July 15, the airline said Wednesday. Surcharges for shipments from the United Statas to Korea and Japan, as well as Korea to the United States, will increase from $1.20 to $1.25 a kilogram. Surcharges from the United States to Shanghai and Guangzhou will also go up from 50 cents to 55 cents a kilogram while surcharges on the longest routes in the NWA cargo network,including all other shipments between the United States and Asia, will rise from $1.30 to $1.35 a kilogram. At the same time, trans-Atlantic cargoes, except shipments continuing to Asia, will also go up from $1.20 to $1.25 a kilogram. Domestic U.S. fuel surcharges will remain unchanged for now. On June 12, Northwest had announced plans to raise fuel surcharge for domestic cargo to 48 cents a pound from 44 cents a pound.
