More HIV treatment could cut subsequent cases 60 per cent
More aggressive programs to treat individuals infected with HIV could cut future AIDS cases by as much as 60 per cent, according to a study by British Columbia researchers published this week in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

B.C. bus passenger dies in custody after resisting arrest
A bus passenger who was injured while resisting arrest by theRCMP in British Columbia has died, the second in-custody death inthe province in a week. Police said the man, who was arrested onFriday night, died in a hospital yesterday. Officers said the manhad a heart attack when taken into custody and was put on lifesupport at the hospital where he later died. A woman arrested forpublic intoxication died last week while being held at an RCMPfacility in the central B.C. city of Prince George. An RCMP reportthis year found 56 per cent of the force's in-custody deathsoccurred in B.C., although only one-third of the force's officersare in the province. The RCMP's B.C. unit said then that the reportby the force's national headquarters exaggerated the rate ofin-custody deaths in the province.
