By ANGELA CARBONE acarbone@repub.com WEST SPRINGFIELD - The entertainment lineup for this year's Big E will have American Idol fans humming "This is My Now," other music-lovers dreaming of the Black Eyed Peas, and still others basking in the retro-glow of the most popular TV band put together in the 1960s. That's right. The entertainers who will perform during the Sept. 12 - 28 run of the Big E include Jordin Sparks, Fergie and Micky Dolenz. The organizers of New England's six-state fair announced today the variety of acts that will appear on-stage. "This is one of the best lineups we've ever had," said Catherine Pappas, communications manager of the Eastern States Exposition. The Big E tries to appeal to the wide-ranging musical tastes of the fair-goers. American Idol star Jordin Sparks will perform a free concert on Sept. 20 at the Eastern States Exposition. "We're bringing some of the biggest names this year," she said. "Fergie is going to be unbelievable. Jordin Sparks is very hot right now, and Leann Rimes is huge in country." British pop star Natasha Bedingfield, known for her number 1 single "A Pocketful of Sunshine," will headline the Comcast Arena stage on opening day. Also scheduled to perform on the Comcast stage are country music singer-song-writing duo Sugarland, on Sept. 27, and the aforementioned Fergie on Sept. 28. The Comcast performances require the purchase of a separate admission ticket. In addition to Sugarland, other country music performers who are slated to appear are locally grown but nationally known Ashley Gearing on Sept. 19, Jason Aldean on Sept. 21, the four-sibling group Jypsi on Sept. 20 and 21, and country-pop Grammy-award winner Leann Rimes will appear on Sept. 26. Jordin Sparks will perform in a free show on Sept. 20 Classic rock and roll performers are part of the mix at the Big E. Micky Dolenz, one-fourth of the famed Monkees, will perform Sept. 12 through 14; former Bad Company lead singer Brian Howe is slated to appear in a free show on Sept. 13; and '80s pop star Tiffany will perform Sept. 22 - 26. Funky soul and disco performers A Taste of Honey is slated for Sept. 15 -19, and Bad Boy recording artists Danity Kane are scheduled to appear in a free concert Sept. 14. With his signature bolero hat and dark glasses, Esteban will play his brand of Spanish flamenco style guitar Sept. 27 and 28, and the Latin rock band Malo is scheduled to perform free shows every day of the fair. Musical performers are just one part of the Big E entertainment package. Other highlights include Military Appreciation Day on Sept. 12, featuring free admission for veterans and military personnel and their immediate families; Cultura 2008 celebration of Hispanic heritage on Sept. 14; the Big E Super Circus; daily Mardi Gras parades; the Big E MartinE Bar at the Italian Pavilion featuring V-One vodka; and the famous Big E cream puffs.
