SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Technology stocks largely rose in early trading Thursday, with Yahoo Inc. among the noteworthy advancers. Yahoo shares climbed 91 cents, or 4%, to $23.38 after Chief Executive Jerry Yang and Chairman Roy Bostock issued a letter to Yahoo shareholders in support of the company's board and blasting what they called the "Carl Icahn-Microsoft alliance" as an effort to destroy Yahoo's share value. Other gains came from Apple Inc. , Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc. . The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 18 points to 2,302.
