SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Standard & Poor's Ratings Services on Tuesday lowered Freddie Mac's subordinated debt rating to BBB+, its risk-to-the-government stand-alone issuer credit rating to A- from A, and its preferred stock rating to BBB- from A-. The ratings were kept on review for possible additional cuts in the future amid uncertainty over whether the government's support will extend to these securities. The ratings agency also affirmed Freddie Mac's AAA/A-1+ senior unsecured debt rating with a stable outlook. S&P took similar actions with Fannie Mae's ratings.
