GM's second-quarter global sales fall 5%
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- General Motors Corp. said Wednesday its global sales fell by 5% in the second quarter to a total of 2.28 million vehicles. However, its overseas growth rose 10%, setting records in all of its non-U.S. sales regions. Among the highlights, Chevrolet posted strong growth in emerging markets, with the brand's overseas sales up 19%. Thomas Marano named ResCap chairman, CEO
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- GMAC Financial Services, in which General Motors holds a 49% stake, said Tuesday Thomas Marano, currently non-executive chairman of Residential Capital, was named ResCap chairman and chief executive officer, effective immediately. He succeeds current CEO Jim Jones who is leaving the company. Marano will remain an employee of Cerberus Capital Management, which owns 51% of GMAC, and report to GMAC Chief Executive Alvaro de Molina. In addition, Joshua Weintraub will take on the role of ResCap vice chairman while Tony Renzi, chief operating officer of ResCap's U.S. Residential Funding Group, was named to the newly created position of ResCap COO.
