Two environmentalist groups on Thursday called for better pollution controls on the proposed Big Stone II coal-fired power plant.The Sierra Club and Clean Water Action submitted a petition to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources requesting a contested case hearing before the Board of Minerals and Environment.The groups intend to show that Otter Tail Power's plans for a second plant near Milbank fail to control pollution that leads to global warming.

This week, the federal government said the bears must be protected because of a decline in Arctic sea ice from global warming. 49 Photojournalist Justin Schmidt went to the Topeka Zoo to find out why there's no need to worry about bears here in Kansas.
