Huntsman confirms of plan to push for $6.5 bln deal
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Huntsman Corp. said it's received notice of an independent shareholder initiative to invest at least $500 million in Hexion on the closing of the merger. The Huntsman family said it's planning to join the shareholder initiative by providing some of the $500 million. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, hedge funds are confronting private-equity giant Apollo Management LP, whose portfolio company Hexion Specialty Chemicals withdrew its $6.5 billion offer for Huntsman earlier this summer, with a plan to invest $500 million to push the deal through. According to the newspaper report, Apollo swiftly rejected the shareholders overture. In Huntsman's statement on Friday, it said shareholders are entitled to their $29 a share and 8% ticking fee and that the combination of Hexion and Huntsman Corporation will be solvent.
