Alabama Power gets OK to use GO Zone bonds
Alabama Power Co. won approval Monday to use another $120 million in GO Zone bond financing for ongoing air pollution control work at Barry Steam Plant in Bucks. The bonds were unanimously approved by Mobile's city Industrial Development Board.Gulf Opportunity Zone bonds were created by Congress as a way to spur recovery from 2005s Hurricane Katrina.The Mobile board had already approved $246 million for pollution control at Barry. The new allocation means Alabama Power can pay for $366 million of a planned $478 million with the bonds, said Kathryn Ottensmeyer, a lawyer working for the company.(For a more complete report, read Tuesday's Press-Register.)
