Tech stocks gain, but VMware slumps as outlook disappoints
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Technology stocks were mixed in early trading Wednesday, with gains from Apple Inc. , Hewlett-Packard Co. , Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corp. . EMC Corp. shares rose 61 cents, or more than 5%, to $13.13 after the storage-technology company reported strong second-quarter earnings before the market opened. However, EMC's VMware Inc. subsidiary saw its shares fall $4.22, or 11%, to $33.86 following an earnings report and weak outlook that it gave late Tuesday.
