Horry council gives initial OK to Carolina Station
Horry County Council voted Tuesday to give Carolina Station, a proposed 6,200-acre development near Longs, an initial nod even though an agreement between the land owner and the county that would govern how to build the project has not been finalized.International Paper Realty Corp., which owns the land, has tried to allay concerns that the county would struggle to provide public services to the estimated 13,800 new residential units by giving the county more than 100 acres and $5.75 million for parks and public safety facilities. As part of the project, the county and International Paper would sign an agreement that would solidify the project's layout for the next 30 years. Changes would need approval from both the county and the company.
