PokerStars LAPT event begins Saturday
The LAPT kicks off on Saturday with its inaugural event in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. The $2,500 buy-in tournament is expected to sell out its 300-seat limit, and some of those seats will be filled with familiar faces. According to PokerStars, Andre Akkari will be taking on players on his home turf and Humberto Brenes will make his way from Costa Rica for the event. Coming from the United States, Team PokerStars pros Gavin Griffin, Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer, Victor Ramdin, Isabelle Mercier, Chad Brown and Vanessa Roussa will also be testing the Brazilian poker waters. PokerStars has also be running online qualifiers to send players to the event, so poker fans shouldn't be surprised to see some of the online realm's big names as well. The tournament will take place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Rio with action starting on Saturday at 1 p.m. local time. Play will continue on Sunday and Monday at 1 p.m. as well with the winner being decided on Monday. The PokerStars LAPT will head to its second stop in May as well, heading to San Jose, Costa Rica, May 22-24. You can bet Humberto Brenes will be there to try to keep the tournament title on his home turf, but PokerStars will be offering plenty of opportunities for online poker players to go to the event as well. The poker site will be offering satellites for the LAPT Costa Rica event until May 11. The third stop on the tour will be at the Mantra Resort Spa Casino in Punta del Este, Uruguay, Aug. 7-9. All events are capped at 300 players and have a $2,500 buy-in. In Costa Rica and Uruguay, there is also a tournament fee of $200.
