Alabama's Don Siegelman asks for help from Colorado delegates at Democratic Convention
DENVER - Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman this morning asked Colorado delegates attending the Democratic National Convention to help him convince Congress to hold Karl Rove in contempt for refusing to testify before a House committee investigating his conviction on bribery and mail fraud."If the Congress does not vote to hold Rove in contempt he is going to walk off into the sunset and it will be a great disservice to this country," Siegelman told about a half empty ballroom of Colorado delegates as they ate breakfast.Siegelman urged delegates to lobby their members of Congress to support a vote holding Rove in contempt for failing to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. That committee subpoened Rove as part of its investigation into whether Rove pushed the Justice Department to launch a criminal prosecution of Siegelman.Siegelman has charged that Rove did just that in an effort to derail a second term for Siegelman in 2002. "Rove and his right-wing friends targeted me in a malicious politically motivated prosecution," Siegelman said.Rove has denied the charge. After his speech, Siegelman made a sheet of information available to delegates as to how they could contribute to his effort to clear his name.Siegelman, who received a seven year-plus sentence on the bribery and mail fraud conviction in 2007, is currently out of federal prison pending an appeal of his case before a federal appeals court in Atlanta.

The Decemberists' Ode to Valerie Plame
The Decemberists, that lovable and literary indie rock band from Portland, Ore., and their bookish frontman, Colin Meloy, are known for writing songs with narratives—similar to the ones you read in English class—about subjects like seafarers, pirates, soldiers, chimney sweeps, trapeze artists, etc. Add to that list 'outed CIA operatives.' Yes, the band has written an ode to Valerie Plame, the former CIA agent whose outing by conservative columnist Robert Novak in 2003 sparked the whole Scooter Libby/Karl Rove/Judith Miller affair. As Stereogum reports, a press release describes the song, simply titled, "Valerie Plame," as being told from "the point-of-view of one of Plame's inside contacts upon discovering her true identity," also stating that its "an amorous tribute to the onetime CIA operative. read more »
