Kazakhmys says it's in preliminary merger talks
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Kazakhmys , a Kazakhstan-based mining firm, surged 6% in London trading Monday after it said that it's in "very preliminary" merger talks. "The discussions are at a very early stage and, consequently, there is no certainty as to the terms and structure of such a transaction nor that an agreement will be reached between the parties," Kazakhmys said in a statement. The Financial Times' Alphaville blog reported Monday, without citing sources, that Kazakhmys is in merger discussions with Metalloinvest, a Russian mining and metallurgical holding company.
