Cit: Barclays may need up to 9 bln pounds more capital
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Analysts at Citigroup said Friday that Barclays could require up to another 9 billion pounds ($17.9 billion) of capital, even after raising 4.5 billion pounds from investors in Asia and the Middle East. Citi said the amount of capital a bank holds should be viewed relative to peers and the underlying economy rather than on a standalone basis. Looked at that way, Barclays would need another 2.5 billion pounds to get its equity Tier 1 ratio in line with U.K. rival Royal Bank of Scotland . If further write-downs are required on the same scale as RBS then that figure rises to around 9 billion pounds, the broker said. Citi retained its sell rating and cut its target price for Barclays to 275 pence from 350 pence.Market Pulse Stories are Rapid-fire, short news bursts on stocks and markets as they move.
