WLTX news making gains on WIS
As another prominent face leaves the WIS-10 newsroom, could the station’s half-century of dominance in the Columbia TV market be coming to an end?Craig Melvin, a homegrown anchor, is going to work at NBC-owned WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. Melvin, who will be a reporter and weekend anchor, is the latest of several personalities who have left the station in recent years, including Susan Aude, Hannah Horne and Ken Aucoin. The losses may be having an impact.Although WIS’ newscasts continue to lead the market in total viewers, they have fallen behind WLTX-19 in some key demographic groups. In the latest Nielsen ratings book, which spanned April 24 to May 21, WLTX-19 was tops in the 6 and 11 p.m. time slots with women ages 25 to 54 and overall viewers ages 25 to 54.
