Deutsche Bank buys parts of ABN Amro
Deutsche Bank AG said yesterday it had agreed to acquire parts of ABN Amro Bank NV's commercial banking activities in the Netherlands for $1.1-billion (U.S.) in cash. The businesses to be acquired by Deutsche Bank include two corporate client units, 13 commercial advisory branches, parts of the Rotterdam-based Hollandische Bank Unie NV and the factoring services company IFN Finance BV. The businesses will use the Deutsche Bank brand name. The deal is in line with competition commitments Fortis Bank made in 2007 when it took over parts of ABN AMRO. DBK (Frankfurt) rose €2.89 to €54.96 ($88.44).

S&P lowered Staples' corporate credit and senior unsecured issue ratings to BBB from BBB+. "The change also reflects Staples' more aggressive financial policy and weaker credit protection measures in the near term following the substantially debt-financed acquisition," said Mark Salierno, an S&P credit analyst.
