Alexander the Great: Jung Won a Tidy Sum
The PartyPoker.com Million events are an annual live tourney hosted by Party aboard world class luxury cruise ships. Of the 171 total players who didn't qualify online through the site bought their way into the NL Hold'em Freeze-out event for $8,000. The majority of the entrants for the PPM VI were European, including a whopping 20% from Germany along. As a result it wasn't a shock to see only one non-European make the final table: Final Table Positions and Payouts: Position Player Country Prize 1 Alexander Jung Germany $358,280 2 Dominik Stopka Germany $285,583 3 Cory Albertson USA $159,235 4 Mika Paasonen Finland $119,425 5 Raymond Estall UK $92,883 6 Andreas Jorbeck Sweden $67,675 7 Johannes Strassman Germany $47,770 8 Peter Steinlesberger Austria $31,845 9 Kenneth Gregersen Denmark $21,230 Heads up between the final two was short and one-sided. Jung, after taking down a number of pots uncontested, got it all in with J-7against Stopka's A-9. The flop paired Jung's 7 and it held for the win. "This is my biggest live win so far. The structure of the tournament was perfect for me, and there were some very good players here. I had a lot of respect for Dominik. I had seen him play a great many hands, mostly without a showdown - and when he did have to show it was often something like aces - so he is a good player. However, I felt one or two others were a bit tight on the final table - perhaps wanting to try and climb the money positions." The winner's glass trophy was presented to the University mathematics student by Party Poker's "Ambassador of poker" Mike Sexton along with his first place prize. Look out for Jung at this summer's WSOP in Las Vegas, as he plans to use part of his newly earned bankroll to take a swing at the world's most prestigious poker tournament. Players set sail today for PartyPoker Million
The eight-day cruise will take players around the Mediterranean with stops at several ports before returning to Venice. However, most of the action will be on board, in the PartyPoker Million VI poker tournament. Players from 30 countries are signed up to play, many of them online qualifiers. They include Mike McDonald, Sweden's Late Night Poker winner Andreas Jorbeck, Brazil's Christian Kruel, Soeren Kongsgaard, Florian Langmann, Alexander Jung and Finland's Mika Paasonen. Many of the old faces will be back once again as well with Mike Sexton playing host and MC, Matt Savage and Dave Lamb as tournament directors and Linda Johnson, Mark Tenner and Jan Fisher on board to help run the poker room. "The excitement is building ahead of the first-ever PartyPoker.com Million to be held in Europe," said a PartyPoker spokesman. "We estimate a total prize pool of over $1.3 million." Previous PartyPoker Million events have taken place in the Caribbean and drawn in large crowds, including several poker pros. Previous winners of the PartyPoker Million include Kathy Liebert, Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Michael Gracz and Mike Schneider. The inaugural Party Poker Million was the first Hold'em tournament to offer a $1 million first prize, the first to combine direct buy-ins with online qualifiers and the first to hold its finals on a cruise liner. It also made history, as Kathy Liebert's victory marked the first $1 million tournament win by a woman. Many of the players heading to the Mediterranean for this year's Million are qualifiers who won their way to the event on PartyPoker.com. The poker site was giving out prize packages worth $12,000 that included the $8,200 buy-in for the No-Limit Texas Hold'em main event plus $2,700 for accommodations and the cruise and $1,100 in spending money. The poker players will be happy to know the cruise ship offers a massive cardroom that will be open 24/7 during the cruise. For the family members along for the ride, there are plenty of other activities and facilities on board to keep them occupied including mini golf, restaurants, tennis courts, pools, spas, cinemas, shopping and more.
