Nintendo, Microsoft stumble while Sony cruises
SF Chronicle Writes: "The PlayStation 3 seems to have found a groove since its bumpy launch, and Sony had plenty of new games to show off. Beyond previously announced titles like "Resistance 2,""inFamous" and "Motorstorm: Pacific Rift," Sony had a few fresh items up its sleeve: "God of War III" and "MAG" (for "Massive Action Game"), which promises 256-player online combat. Sony also debuted some intriguing PlayStation Network downloads, including "Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty," the hypnotic "Flower" and the comical strategy game "Fat Princess." And the PlayStation Portable got some love too, with "Resistance: Retribution,""LocoRoco 2" and "Patapon 2." All in all, a solid showing for the once struggling PlayStation family."

New 80GB PS3: limited USB connectivity
Product Reviews writes: "On our recent post about the new PlayTV, one of our readers asked if the new announced 80gb Sony PS3 will have rear USB slots as the current 40gb model doesn't have any at the rear. They did not want the PlayTV sticking out at the front of the Playstation 3, after a little research we cannot confirm if they will be back or front, but it does not look good from what we read on Stuff. The 80GB will come with the same feature set as the pared down model. So limited USB connectivity and no backwards compatibility with PS2 games. If that's true then we could expect nearly everything to be the same, including the USB ports. This will affect buyer's decisions when looking at the PlayTV.

E3: Sony Soars To New Heights
Endsights writes: "Even though they lost another exclusive in Final Fantasy XIII, Sony had a strong yet somber showing at E3. They made it loud and clear, on several occasions, that this was the year of the PlayStation 3, and I couldn't agree more. After bringing up the rear in the "next-gen console war" ever since its launch, the PS3 is showing its teeth for the first time ever since the battle for supremacy began. After a stellar month of June, where the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 by a healthy margin, and where Metal Gear Solid 4 stealthily sneaked atop the sales charts for the month, Sony showed off its full arsenal for this year and beyond and proved that they can compete with Nintendo & Microsoft."

Sony's PLAYSTATION®3 helping in National Security
RICHLAND, Wash.- Believe it or not, technology on your Playstation is being used to help develop new national security devices. Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are using the same technology used in the new Playstation 3 to develop new video tools for national security. The research is being done on this small supercomputer, believe it or not it has about one-quarter the computing power of the lab's 8,000 square foot supercomputer.
