Retired Air Force chaplain is longtime McCain supporter Rabbi Ira Flax, a retired military chaplain who lives in Birmingham, is scheduled to give the closing benediction tonight at the Republican National Convention. John McCain and thinks he would make an outstanding president. "The story of his courage and heroism, it's almost sacred in nature in terms of living up to service before self," Flax said. "That's real courage, real commitment, real sacrifice." Flax said he plans to speak about service and vision in his address. He was the only chaplain on duty at the U.S. air base in Germany when 57 wounded Rangers were brought in from Somalia in the "Black Hawk Down" incident. "I spent the entire night going from bed to bed and room to room," Flax said. "It was a very hard night."
