Japanese shares rise in early trading
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Japanese shares gained early Tuesday after ruling Liberal Democratic Party's Secretary-General Taro Aso reportedly said he intends to run for party president, which would put him in line to be the next Prime Minister. Aso was reported as saying by the Nikkei business daily that he intends to run for the LDP party's president after Yasuo Fukuda resigned as prime minister late Monday. The Nikkei 225 Average rose 0.1% to 12,846.30 and the broader Topix index added 0.3% to 1,234.42.
