Titan Poker player dives right into WSOP
When Sands headed to Las Vegas from his home in Greece, the odds weren't in his favor that he'd do well in the live tournament. He's a beginner player who had just started playing online poker in March and landed a seat in the WSOP less than a month after that. However, Sands proved he could swim with the best of them at the poker tables. According to Titan Poker, Sands was eager to better his game and played up to four hours a day, five times a week with no lose or win limit in sight. His natural talent combined with his determination paid off with a seat in the 2008 WSOP, and the British-born diving instructor was off to his first live tournament in Las Vegas. Up against a field of 6,844 players, Sands would seem to be a small fish in the ocean of players, but his three-month-old poker skills got him through one day after another to end up finishing in 577th place for a $23,160 cash. Sands attributed his success in the Main Event to 75% skill and 25% luck. He also highlighted the psychological aspect of the game, noting that the ability to read another players' tells is vital. For online tournaments, he says speed and the amount of the bet are good indicators of players' tells. Sands wasn't the only Titan Poker player who found success at the WSOP this year either. Alberto Andrews Fon Rytzner from Spain won his seat to the Main Event at the poker site as well and landed in 441st place for a piece of the multi-million dollar prize pool. The next opportunity for Titan Poker players to gain notoriety on the live tournament circuit is at the Asian Poker Tour Macau event in August. The poker site also has qualifiers for the Sun City Million, the Irish Winter Festival and Grosvenor U.K. Poker Tour stops.
