SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- South Korea's SK Telecom Co. and Sprint Nextel Corp. of the U.S. held preliminary talks to form a strategic partnership to develop new handsets and services, The Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The companies have also discussed the possibility of SK Telecom making an investment in Sprint, but the companies are not discussing a merger at this point, the newspaper said. The talks are at an early stage and may not result in any deal between the companies, according to the Journal.
