NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- General Electric Co. said Monday it has appointed David Joyce president and chief executive of its $16.8 billion aviation business. Joyce, 51, is a 28-year veteran with GE Aviation and was most recently its vice president of commercial engines. GE's aviation unit represented about 10% of its annual revenue in 2007, but has managed to grow its sales by more than 27% thanks to demand for new aircraft, parts and services. The unit also accounts for GE's largest share of research and development expenditures. Joyce succeeds Scott Donnelly, who took over as the chief operating officer at Textron .
