College-bound veterans say campus needs often unmet
CHAMPAIGN -- Nothing Derek Blumke saw during three Air Force tours in Afghanistan prepared him for college life. That was obvious to him during one of his first calls to the University of Michigan, when employees told him they couldn’t answer his questions because he wasn’t yet a student. Later, he found himself wandering the Ann Arbor campus trying to figure out how to use his military benefits to pay tuition.

Solar Challenge shines in park
Sioux Falls became a little bit "greener" Wednesday as solar cars built by university students rolled into town.The cars are part of the North American Solar Challenge, a college competition to design, build and race solar-powered cars across the country. More than 20 cars began in Plano, Texas, and will finish the race in Calgary, Alberta, by traveling 2,400 miles.The University of Michigan's car was the first to reach Falls Park at 12:35 p.m. That car, along with the others as they come into Sioux Falls, can be seen today and Friday morning before they roll out for the next leg of their journey.
