Waukee citywide cleanup is Saturday
Waukee's annual citywide cleanup will be held Saturday. All items must be to the curb by 7 a.m. The following items will not be accepted: tires, asphalt, bricks, hazardous materials, batteries, concrete and anything over 6 feet long. Waste Management conducts the citywide cleanup day for Waukee's 11,000 residents. The city pays about $4,000 for the day.

County sets date for trash decision
Sedgwick County commissioners will decide the county's garbage future May 28.That day, they will have to decide controversial issues such as trash franchising, curbside recycling and banning grass clippings from regular garbage pickup.They have until June 10 to submit a final waste management plan to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.Commissioners emphasized Tuesday that adopting the plan will not end their planning process.In an effort to build consensus, county officials are planning informal talks with area cities before the deadline and a "trash summit" shortly after the plan is adopted, County Manager Bill Buchanan said.
