Games review: Emergency Mayhem
Despite its stunning sales success, the Wii hasn't exactly been overburdened with a huge portfolio from third-party publishers. This attempt at a bit of Wii fluff is moderately successful - while it won't win awards, it's fun to play, and should keep the kids amused (why it is rated 12+ is difficult to fathom). It plonks you in Crisis City, which is in the grip of mayhem thanks to criminals running around, broken traffic lights, fire hydrants spewing and so on. You represent the police, fire or ambulance services and try to complete a set number of mini-games that solve the city's problems in a set time; completing missions and picking up power-ups increase the time available. Don't expect anything as sophisticated as narrative, but some of the missions raise a smile.

Game review: Secret Files: Tunguska
Point-and-click adventures have never been a natural fit for console joypads, but Secret Files does a fair job, thanks to imaginative use of the Wiimote. Converted from the PC original, with only occasional dodgy translations, the quest to unravel one of Russia's worst natural disasters is packed with detailed backdrops and well-drawn characters, smothered in an oppressive, X-Files conspiracy hue. The puzzle-solving and production values are top-notch. However, the interface is still not quite right, with an oversized cursor that tends to click on the wrong objects and slightly uncomfortable key mappings. Still, if you can get past this, Secret Files is the adventure to beat on Wii and, indeed, most other consoles.

6 Reasons Why the Wii Isn't the Industry's Saviour
RewiredMind: "This is the first in a series of posts that I intend to make under the “6 Reasons” banner. Why? Because I love writing lists. I mean, I LOVE writing lists. I have lists all over my house, all over my computers and if I could, I'd tattoo one under my right eyelid so I could see it when I sleep. Mildly obsessively compulsive? Maybe. Either way, the first topic I'll be covering is to do with the success of Nintendo's Wii platform and how I think that the machine isn't the saviour that everyone is making it out to be. Don't worry Wii-fans, I'll have a little argument with myself overnight and write a countering post tomorrow. So, without further ado."
