Ace Gamez previews Gears of War 2
This November, Epic Games will release Gears of War 2 exclusively on Xbox 360, sequel to the 4.5 million selling super hit original. Even amidst a slew of potentially triple A exclusives released on 360 over the notoriously busy winter period, including such heavyweights as Fable 2 and Halo Wars, it will be down to Gears of War 2 to spearhead Microsoft's charge for Christmas sales success. If anything, this is testament to just how important a franchise Gears of War has become to Microsoft - surely the console's second biggest name, falling only slightly short of the mighty Halo.

How did Bill Gates get popular?
Everybody has an opinion about whether Gates is a good guy or a bad guy. But there is no doubting that his image is a lot different than in 2000, when Ken Auletta painted an unflattering portrait of Gates in his book, "World War 3.0," about the Microsoft antitrust trial. With Xbox, Gates had a chance to play the white knight. When Sony started dropping hints about the PlayStation 2 in 1998, Microsoft went into a panic. Sony's executives were boastful. Soon, they were saying it was going to be the comet to wipe out the dinosaurs and was "more than a PC." Microsoft had to defend the living room, and Gates' attempts to partner with Sony fell flat.

Army of Two for Xbox 360: Not what I expected
Thexboxpro writes: "I was really excited to finally get to see and play the new game Army of Two for the Xbox 360. I had really high hopes that this game was going to be able to rest and not turn out to be just like your average shooter game. With the fact that this game is centered about two buddies with cooperative play and seemed to be filled with big explosions along with funny one lines I was sure it was going to be a hit. Boy was I wrong! The big explosions and one liners are very few and not to mention far between. I played them game and felt very disappointed in the game overall. I couldn't get past the feeling that they had just shoved the game through and out the door. The end result being that it feels very unrealistic and extremely unfinished. Let me tell you why I feel this way."

Pachter Believes Bigger Price Cuts Needed for PS3, Xbox 360
"'As consoles come down in price,' he explained to Gamepro, 'the manufacturers will sell more of them, and the market will continue to expand. Around 90% of last-generation console sales were made at the $199 price point or below.' Continuing, he said, 'Only wealthy or hardcore gamers have purchased consoles so far, given that the PS3 is still $399, the 360 is still $349, and the Wii is still $249. When prices drop below $200 (probably in 2010), the mass market [for PS3 and 360] will emerge.'"

Analysis of Americas Sales for the Week Ending June 21st, 2008
VGChartz writes: "Metal Gear Solid 4 was the top selling title for the second week in a row, but Wii was the top selling console this week. PS3 sales dropped to the point where Xbox 360 was able to outsell it slightly. Metal Gear Solid 4 remained the top selling non-bundled game for this week, but it is dropping rather quickly after a stellar debut at over 500,000 units last week. Following closely was Wii Fit which topped a million units in lifetime sales this week. Hardware sales roughly paralleled those two games – the drop in Metal Gear Solid 4 was accompanied by a large drop in PS3 sales, while the increase in Wii Fit sales accompanied a large increase in Wii sales. Year over year trends continue to indicate that this year is trending to be the biggest ever for the videogame industry in the Americas. All hardware except for the ancient PS2 was up from this time a year ago. .........6/21/08........6/23/07....YoY Change Wii....185,689.......108,739..........+71% DSL..167,666.......143,944..........+16% 360....57,574........50,884...........+13% PSP...69,654........63,863...........+9% PS3...55,163.......20,980...........+163% PS2...33,897........60,583...........-44% Notes: - Grand Theft Auto IV has sold to about 32.5% of all Xbox 360 & PS3 owners in the Americas, with a total of 5.5 million copies. - Halo 3 is owned by over 49% of all Xbox 360 owners in the Americas.
