This brings back memories of the terrible death of Dominic James in Springfield Mo. where the foster father beat him to death. Even though during his trial it was said he was shaken to death, those of us who attending the funeral know different. This child wore a baseball cap in his casket to conceal head trauma.
Maberys' actions are unexcusable. You don't become that jealous of a child. Only a coward would do what she did. The father, I believe knew of the abuse. Maybe he didn't want to acknowledge it, but a caring parent would have known, "It's called denial". How he waited two hours to call the police after finding his son that way, I just can't imagine. Could he have been afraid of her himself? She should never get her daughter back. Mother's in Missouri lose their children for far less and some never get their children back and have not been accused of abuse.
Cassandra Killpack, a child in the state of Utah, is also another child that comes to mind when I read this story. She was murdered for taking a sip of kool-aid from her adoptive sister's cup after being denied drink on a consistant basis over months. It's very hard not to see racism as a motive in all three of these cases. I wonder what this young father must think now about how this person feels about him in order to do something this terrible to his son?
