Unfortunately the lack of regulation allows for shoddy performance by mortuaries -- especially when dealing with cremation. When I picked up my late husband's cremains, I was given the urn we'd chosen, but there was NO identification on it. Instead the clerk looked in a file box (similar to a recipe card file) and handed me an envelope with a sticker bearing his name. Additionally, we'd wished to send memorial cards to family and friends. We had chosen a very nice looking card with a message suitable to him. These were NOT available that day -- they were still being "printed". We were charged $75 for 100 cards (minimum amount). About a week later we got a packet in the mail containing the "memorial cards". They were generated on a computer, in black-and-white (unlike the color sample we were shown). Basically it was something my 10-yr-old granddaughter could have made using PrintShop.
